Since October 9, the Children’s Clinical University Hospital (BKUS) has launched a comprehensive digital skills development program aimed at strengthening employees’ knowledge of artificial intelligence and its use in everyday work.
The program includes 12 thematic sessions – covering everything from the basic principles of AI to practical tools that can be applied in medicine, research, and administrative processes.
BKUS serves as an excellent example of how large organizations can systematically develop digital competenciesthrough structured and tailored training. Thanks to EU Recovery Fund support, LIFT training programs are available to companies in various industries free of charge (businesses only pay VAT) – from the financial sector to manufacturing and customer service.
According to BKUS, artificial intelligence is one of the fastest-growing technologies in the world, offering major opportunities to improve efficiency and quality in healthcare. Automation, data analysis, and AI assistants can help doctors and nurses spend more time with patients by reducing routine tasks.
As Latvia’s leading pediatric healthcare institution, we have a responsibility to keep pace with technological advancements and make the most of new opportunities. This requires continuous employee education and the acquisition of new skills,”
emphasizes Valts Ābols, Chairman of the Board of the Children’s Clinical University Hospital.
He explains that the hospital employs more than 2,000 people, and EU funding for digital skills development is an essential support mechanism, allowing a wide range of staff – from doctors and medical specialists to administrative employees – to receive training.
The program began with two online introductory lectures and one practical workshop designed to help participants with little or no experience in AI tools gain an initial understanding of their potential.
Subsequent weekly in-person sessions and workshops focus on more specific tools, such as:
After completing the training, BKUS will continue working with LIFT project experts to develop a detailed AI and technology development strategy. The goal is to define how to responsibly and effectively implement AI solutionsthat support the hospital’s strategic objectives and improve children’s healthcare services.
This structured approach provides an effective way for organizations to enhance team skills. Within the LIFT program, each organization can start with a general introduction to AI and then gradually move toward practical implementation tailored to their specific workflows.
Under the LIFT program, companies can access closed group training sessions for their employees – either conducted on-site or online. These sessions enable participants from different companies to learn new skills together and share experiences, challenges, and outcomes.
Popular training options include:
Participants will learn to use AI assistants in a practical way, covering core usage principles and highlighting key differences and safety considerations among various tools. If a company primarily uses Copilot, the training can be tailored accordingly.
Once AI basics are mastered, participants can move on to hands-on automation training, creating simple, customized AI-driven no-code tools suited to their company’s needs.
A unique opportunity for management teams to understand AI’s potential, analyze company-specific needs, and explore practical implementation scenarios. The goal is to help leaders initiate AI projects at a strategic level.
By improving Excel skills across different employee levels, companies can enhance data accuracy, analysis, and overall productivity.
For teams handling large data volumes, Power BI basics help employees leverage the platform’s analytical capabilities and improve efficiency.
For companies that run multiple projects, it’s valuable to offer employees both introductory and advanced project management courses.
For employees who regularly prepare or deliver presentations, this training helps refine both content creation and storytelling techniques to ensure clarity and engagement.
LIFT also offers other tailored courses for company groups. Each closed training session is customized in terms of content, duration, and focus to match the organization’s specific needs.
Training can take place in company premises or online, enabling teams to learn together and immediately apply new skills in practice.
Whether your goal is to increase efficiency, reduce manual tasks, or explore AI’s strategic potential, LIFT helps find the right format and pace for your organization’s digital growth.
