On May 25, 2018, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will take effect, establishing uniform rules for the protection of personal data throughout the European Union (EU); in Latvia, the application of the regulation will be governed by the Personal Data Processing Law.

RBS is a higher education institution that offers bachelor’s and master’s degree programs, as well as English language instruction and management courses. RBS also provides information about studying in the United States. To carry out these tasks, RBS collects and processes personal information about prospective and current students, their parents; alumni; and prospective, current, and former course participants; event attendees and individuals who have registered for the event; as well as representatives of partner companies and potential or current employers.

When processing personal data, RBS will comply with applicable national laws, EU regulations (General Data Protection Regulation – GDPR), and generally accepted confidentiality requirements. RBS will not disclose personal data to third parties (unless required by law or specific consent has been obtained) and will ensure the secure storage of data to the greatest extent possible.

Upon a person’s request, RBS will ensure:

1. The individual’s information.
2. The cessation of sending information to an individual who has opted out of receiving it. This does not apply to information related to the performance of a contract or important information regarding degrees, certificates, and completed courses.
3. Updating or deleting personal information, unless its retention is required by law and/or relates to courses and programs completed at RBS or its partner institutions. RBS will retain only the minimum amount of information necessary to verify the identity of individuals who are entitled to receive information regarding certificates, diplomas, or completed courses.

RBS processes personal data for the following purposes:

•    For administrative processes—to provide services and monitor contract performance (including invoices). To fulfill this purpose, at least the following data will be required and stored: first name, last name (including changes), personal ID number, address, bank account number, payments made, phone number, and email address.
•    To disseminate information about RBS programs, courses, services, and offers. To fulfill this purpose, some or all of the following data will be required and stored: first name, last name, telephone number, and email address.
•    For academic purposes, to track and monitor a person’s academic progress. To fulfill this purpose, the following data will be stored and processed separately: the individual’s first name, last name, degrees earned, courses completed, and grades obtained at RBS and other institutions.
•    To ensure the quality of the services provided by RBS and to improve its programs. To achieve this purpose, the following data will be stored and processed: first name, last name, address, phone number, email address, and career information.
•    For the recruitment of teaching staff and employees. To fulfill this purpose, at least the following data will be required and stored: first name, last name, address, phone number, email address, prior education and skills, and information about career history and interests.

However, the withdrawal of your consent does not affect data processing that took place while your consent was in effect.
